Closing the gap from a missing tooth with a dental bridge
Fixed in place and not removable, a dental bridge replaces a missing tooth or several missing teeth in a row. A replacement tooth called the "pontic" is anchored to crowns on the neighboring natural teeth, literally bridging the gap. For patients who would rather avoid surgery, it's a reliable, time-tested way to restore chewing and keep the surrounding teeth from drifting.
Step by step, the video shows how it comes together. The neighboring teeth are gently shaped to receive crowns and an impression is taken, then a temporary bridge protects the area while a dental laboratory custom-makes your permanent one. At a follow-up appointment, the final bridge is cemented in place and fine-tuned for a comfortable bite.
You can choose all-ceramic for a natural look, all-metal for maximum strength, or a combination of the two. Given good home care, a bridge can last many years, though cleaning underneath calls for a slightly different technique than flossing natural teeth, something we'll happily demonstrate at your visit.
