How dental crowns cap and protect a damaged tooth at Brammeier Family Dental
A tooth that's cracked, carries a large old filling, or has lost significant structure is one bite away from splitting in two, because everyday chewing forces keep working against it. A dental crown prevents that. The tooth-shaped cap fits over the weakened tooth and restores its strength, shape, and appearance.
The video walks through the full process. Once the area is comfortably numbed, the tooth is shaped to make room for the crown and an impression is taken, then a temporary crown guards it while your custom permanent crown is made. At a follow-up visit, the final crown is cemented in place and adjusted to fit your bite precisely.
Prefer to skip the wait? At Brammeier Family Dental we also offer CEREC same-day crowns. In-office milling technology lets us design, fabricate, and place a high-quality crown in a single visit, with no temporary needed. Traditional or same-day, Dr. Lauren Brammeier will recommend the right material based on the tooth's location, your bite, and how natural you want it to look.
A crown's lifespan comes down to how you look after it: daily brushing and flossing, a healthy diet, and regular checkups. Backed by good home care, a well-made crown can protect a tooth for a decade or more.
